Round Rock ISD Substitute Policy
Guidelines for Student Teachers Serving as Substitutes
In the Round Rock Independent School District, the following conditions must be met before a student teacher will be permitted to substitute teach for pay:
- The decision of a student teacher's readiness to assume substitute teaching duty must be unanimous among the student teacher, university faculty member or supervisor, and school district's campus principal. However, the student teacher has the final decision as to whether he or she would like to substitute teach when requested to do so.
- The student is only allowed to substitute teach for the cooperating teacher(s) to whom he or she is assigned during the student teaching assignment.
- The rate of substitute pay for the student teacher will be equivalent to the rate of pay for a regularly assigned substitute teacher employed by the school district.
- The student teacher must complete all required paperwork and produce all necessary documents prior to receiving a substitute assignment. A substitute packet may be obtained on the RRISD Substitute Opportunities and Information Web page and/or from the Substitute Coordinator in the Administration Building or by calling 512-464-5034.
Once the student teacher has completed the required number of weeks in his or her student teaching assignment satisfactorily, the student teacher may serve as a substitute teacher on a full-time basis as needed by the school district throughout the remainder of the semester of the school year. However, the student teacher must submit a completed application prior to regular substitute assignments.
Questions relative to using student teachers as substitute teachers may be directed to the Substitute Specialist in RRISD Human Resources Department at 512-464-5034.
